DKG IN THE COMMUNITY
Princess Academy ~ Galena Park ISD
During 2014-2015, Zeta Upsilon concentrated on helping the young women of Galena Park ISD. Under the guidance of our committee chair, Loyce Manahan and co-chair, Lissa Shepard, were able to narrow our search of the area that was in need of assistance. It was a unanimous vote to make sure that GPISD counselor Creezeta J. Guess and her PRINCESS ACADEMY had our full support. Mrs. Guess received grant of $800 that provided food, materials and field trips for the middle age girls in the district. The girls across all the middle schools in our school district attended monthly Saturday meetings. Each month there was theme and or field trip. Mrs. Guess had a specific lesson plans and provided the girls with a breakfast treat and lots of learning. One event concentrated on improving the girls self-esteem: - Love the Girl in the Mirror. Mrs. Guess had special guest speakers and shared her own personal experiences to help the girls understand that each one is special. Our job was to provide the girls with Door Prizes. It was fun shopping for the door prizes and collecting them, too. The Door Prizes were then given to Mrs. Guess. The door prizes offered great incentives to increase the attendance of the meetings. Door prizes included: lotions, nail polish, sparkly rings and hair pieces and GIFT cards. The girls loved the gift cards. It was a great project and we look forward in helping our district once again.
